Premier League Map Changes for the Season 2011/2012
The amount of Football Teams in London stays as it was. It is painful for West Ham United, but for the Football Tourist visiting London they have just been replaced by the Queens Park Rangers. London still stays the premier League paradise. The distribution of Football Teams accross England has improved. Birmingham City was one of four Teams (Aston Villa, Wolverhampton Wanderers and WBA the others) in the Birmingham Region and from the Manchester-Liverpool area Blackpool was relegated. Sorry to the tangerines, but apart from the obvious Teams from Manchester and Merseyside there are also Blackburn, Wigan and Bolton around. It was about time some other regions managed to get their places back in the top flight of English Football.
Interestingly, one of the promoted teams comes from Wales. Swansea City is the first Welsh team to play in the Premiership since it was founded in 1992!. Congratulations! Somehow we have the funny feeling this will only be a quick presentation of Swansea in the Premiership. Maybe Cardiff would replace them? (Ouch, that would hurt the Swans fans...)
So, this team is way in the west. The other Team comes right from the other side of the island, from East Anglia.! It was about time that either Norwich City or Ipswich Town were promoted, this region just deserves at least one Team in the top flight. With Norwich City, a well known club returns to the Premier League.
Which areas are missing in the Premier League Map. Pretty obviously, the south of England has no teams at all in the Premier League. Maybe Southampton or Portsmouth will manage to be promoted this season?
Two other notable areas of English Football are missing. The East Midlands have not had Premier League Football for a while now. It would be great to see Nottingham Forest, Derby County or Leicester FC join the top shots of English football.
The other Region is Yorkshire. Neither Sheffield (both Teams in League One!!!) nor Leeds have a team in the Premier League. Leeds United are certainly one of the teams that we might see on this map for the 2012/2013 season. For Sheffield it would be great to get at least one team back onto the Map of the 2nd level of English Football.
